Where can I find information about the Arctic?

Introduction

The Arctic is at the top of Earth around the North Pole. The area is made from an ocean, different countries and floating ice that does not melt.

General websites

To start learning more about the Arctic, look at these great websites. You can find out some helpful facts about the Arctic, the people and animals who live there.

Britannica School Primary

Britannica School is one of the EPIC resources. EPIC is a collection of reliable databases covering lots of different topics. It's put together especially for New Zealand school students. This database can read the articles to you too.

  • Look for the search bar.

  • Enter your search word eg 'Arctic'.

  • Choose the article called Arctic regions.

  • You will find out about how cold it is there and what animals live there.

Elementary (Gale In Context)

This is another EPIC resource. It has information on lots of subjects.

  • Find the search bar and enter 'Arctic'.

  • There are lots of book and magazine articles and pictures.

  • Under the heading Book Articles choose Arctic.

  • Enter 'arctic' into the search bar.

  • Watch a video like The Arctic vs. the Antarctic.

Tips: Websites that have .com or .co in the address can have good information, but you need to assess how reliable it is. Check the About us link on the website, if you can find one. That can tell you what the company’s mission and values are.
